PLYMOUTH, Mich., Feb. 20, 2008 – To address evolving industry challenges and requirements, Simrit – the industrial sealing products division of Freudenberg-NOK and a global supplier of elastomeric seals and custom molded products – will announce its latest material and design solutions during a technical paper presentation at the 2008 International Exposition for Power Transmission (IFPE).

Joel Johnson, vice president of technology for Simrit, will discuss the company’s proprietary material and design solutions in a presentation titled “Wide Range Temperature, Pressure and Fluid Resistant Hydraulic Cylinder Sealing Systems” on Friday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m. in room S-229 located in the South Hall, Level Two, Bridge Meeting Complex.

Increasing industry challenges – including temperature and hydrolysis resistance, and bio-friendly fluid compatibility – continue to drive demands for better performing seal designs and materials. During his presentation, Johnson will describe Simrit’s new global materials – including NOK U641 urethane, G928 HNBR and NOK UH05 urethane – as well as a unique sealing design that offers high pressure system ability which meets industry and customer needs.

The new Simrit materials offer high temperature resistance (up to 120 degrees Celsius / 248 degrees Fahrenheit), are compatible with bio-fuels and resistant to hydrolysis and glycolysis. The new advancements presented by Johnson will help fluid power engineers design more robust cylinders for use in a variety of applications.

Interested parties who are unable to attend the technical paper presentation can visit the Simrit booth (#S-14005) at IFPE 2008 for information about the new materials and designs. The company is also hosting a media-only event on Wednesday, March 12 from 3 to 4 p.m. in room N249-251 to discuss its package of industry-specific sealing solutions. Simrit Unveils HDP 330 High-Pressure Piston Seal at IFPE 2008

Agriculture / Construction, Fluid Power, , , ,

PLYMOUTH, Mich., Feb. 20, 2008 – Simrit, the industrial sealing products division of Freudenberg-NOK, will profile its HDP 330 High-Pressure Piston Seal at the 2008 International Exposition for Power Transmission (IFPE) as a cost-effective solution that is resilient to extreme operating conditions.

This two-part seal set, consisting of a polyamide (PA) slide ring for sealing and an elastomeric energizing element for producing pre-load, is designed to withstand extreme pressure (up to 800 bar) without extruding. The HDP 330 complements Simrit’s Merkel™ piston seal program, which is compatible with ISO 7425-1 groove standards for use in hydraulic cylinders in construction, agricultural and material handling equipment.

“Our polyamide HDP 330 piston seal offers cost-effective cylinder construction without sacrificing quality or durability,” said Joel Johnson, vice president of technology, Simrit. “The seal demonstrates extreme strength against gap extrusion and has the ability to withstand higher surface finishes that usually accompany drawn tubes. Additionally, it has the capability to traverse properly designed pressure ports, while preventing cylinder drift because of the precisely molded cross section and step cut geometry.”

The first part of the HDP 330 seal design is the sliding element, which consists of a fiberglass filled modified polyamide. The second part is the energizer or contact pressure element and is made from nitrile rubber NBR. High temperature, elastomer material HNBR energizers are also available. Together, Simrit’s new seal design offers a tight sealing function and drift resistance, due to special molding technology.

Offering dynamic and static tightness that is comparable to polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) piston seals, but at lower cost, Simrit’s new seal is interchangeable with O-ring energized seals. Its new design is quick and easy to assemble and is capable of running over properly designed ports, while also allowing for a greater bore surface roughness (compared to conventional seals). Additionally, its rectangular contact pressure element produces consistently high pre-loading force and offers high protection against twisting in the housing.

Product engineers interested in additional information can visit the Simrit booth (#S-14005) at IFPE 2008, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from March 11 – 15. Interested media attendees can attend the Simrit press event on Wednesday, March 12 from 3 to 4 p.m. in room N249-251. Please see editor’s note for R.S.V.P. information.
