PLYMOUTH, Mich., Feb. 20, 2008 – Simrit, the industrial sealing products division of Freudenberg-NOK and global supplier of elastomeric seals and custom molded products, will debut its Bi-Component Polyurethane Rod Seal HDR-2C at the 2008 International Exposition for Power Transmission (IFPE).
With the new HDR-2C rod seal, Simrit has designed a simple, one-piece component that combines outstanding low temperature flexibility – down to minus 50 degrees Celsius (minus 58 degrees Fahrenheit) – with exceptional extrusion resistance at high pressures. Recommended for use in lift and steering cylinder applications, the component consists of static and dynamic sealing edges made of low-temperature polyurethane 92 AU 21100 and an extremely extrusion-resistant backside made from Simrit’s 98 AU 928 polyurethane.
“We are excited to introduce our new HDR-2C rod seal at IFPE. Our design combines two materials into a single seal, providing larger extrusion gap widths and greater protection against housing and bore contact,” said Joel Johnson, vice president of technology, Simrit. “Additionally, the HDR-2C Bi-Component Rod Seal can increase service life up to 50 percent in applications characterized by high pressure impact.”
The new seal design allows for the use of cost-effective engineered plastic guides (rather than metallic guides) and allows for easy installation and additional cost savings due to the integration of the back-up ring in the seal. Compatible with standard housings per Simrit’s design philosophy, the new rod seal is an affordable way to improve cylinder performance.
